Vaginal discharge is the most common gynecological symptom in women and many are walking around with this very uncomfortable problem without knowing that acupuncture might work to get rid of it.
A slight vaginal discharge that increases in volume at mid-cycle is physiological and normal. If the discharge is different in amount, colour, consistency or smell, it then is a pathological condition.
Vaginal discharge has always played an important role in Chinese gynecology to understand the pathology of the patient. So don’t be surprised if your acupuncturist asks about it. It is most of the time due to dampness affecting the Ren Mai and Dai Mai meridians. Irregular diet, excessive physical work, emotional strain, overwork or living in a damp environment can all cause different discharge.
It’s important to know when to see a doctor (for example when it is a sexually transmitted disease), but here are a few home remedies you can try first.
Bakingsoda
- Add anywhere between 1/4 cup to 2 cups of baking soda to your bath and allow it to dissolve. Soak in the bath for 10 to 40 minutes.
Greek yoghurt
- You can insert some yogurt into your vagina to soothe the itching or use a tampon coated in yoghurt.
Use plain Greek yoghurt with no added flavors or sugar.
If the problem doesn’t go away, visit your doktor or visit an acupuncturist.
